Native Ceremonies

Hotel Rancho Escondido & Spa

Native Wedding Ceremony is a spiritual event based on Native American traditions, it symbolizes the union of day and night, sun and moon, earth and sun, male and female, the duality of the universe coming together as one and a true reflection of a couple's inner spirituality and beliefs.

For those from another culture, this ceremony offers a truly distinctive wedding experience, some couples embrace traditions from their heritage, and others prefer a more personal approach, either way Native Ceremonies offers a unique ceremony that incorporates a respect and understanding of individual beliefs and traditions.

A Native Wedding ceremony includes the following components:
Smudging:
This is done to purify the body mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally using sage, copal or cedar. As the smoke rises into the heavens it carries our prayers and well wishes to the creator and into the universe.

Salutation to the Four Directions: Blowing the conch shell to the four wings to open up the cosmic energy from the four cardinal points.

Drumming and Singing: Drumming and singing is one way to pray for the couple union and wellbeing.

Prayers and Vows: The native minister recites a native wedding prayer for the couple followed by the vows they take for each other.

Eagle whistles and blessing with feathers
At the end of the ceremony the couple is wrapped together in one colorful blanket symbolizing their union.

Although the availability of rings was doubtful in ancient ceremonies, this tradition has become popular in many weddings, today the passage to the status of husband and wife is marked by the exchange of rings, these rings are a symbol of the unbroken circle of love and it will always remind you the vows you have made.
